The previously announced Broadway revival of La Bête has found a home at the Music Box Theatre. The production, which stars Tony winner David Hyde Pierce, Tony winner Mark Rylance and Joanna Lumley, will begin performances on September 23 ahead of an October 14 opening night, directed by Matthew Warchus. The Music Box’s current tenant, Lend Me a Tenor, is scheduled to close on August 15.
Set in 17th century France, the Moliere-inspired La Bête is a farce written in iambic pentameter that tells of a government-sponsored theater troupe that is shaken up when the group's patron insists that a buffoonish street performer joins the company. The original Broadway production opened on February 10, 1991, and ran for 25 performances. The revival will play a limited run this summer in London’s West End before coming to Broadway.
